A man has been sentenced to 143 years in prison following a violent crime spree that began at a Burger King drive-thru in Aurora, Colorado.

Eugene Robertson, 40, was found guilty in April of this year for a series of offenses that took place in October 2022. The crimes included pointing a gun at a fast-food worker and shooting at multiple individuals throughout the night. Robertson was convicted of 17 separate charges and received his sentence last week, as reported by ABC News.

The chaotic sequence of events began when Robertson visited a local Burger King drive-thru. According to prosecutors, he attempted to pay for his order with drugs, which the employee refused. In response, Robertson brandished a gun at the worker.

The incident escalated when Robertson moved on to a nearby convenience store. There, he pointed a gun at the clerk’s head, then fired shots at the store’s surveillance camera before fleeing. Outside the store, Robertson shot at two people in the parking lot.

Robertson’s crime spree continued as he went to the home of a woman who was a friend. After she refused to open the door, he shot through it and then left. The woman called 911, leading to Robertson’s arrest as he was found hiding in the bushes by responding officers.

Originally facing up to 400 years in prison, Robertson was ultimately sentenced to 143 years. The Sentinel Colorado reported that his convictions include eight counts of attempted first-degree murder with extreme indifference, four counts of menacing with a firearm, and two counts of reckless endangerment. He was also found guilty of illegally discharging a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and harassment.
