Notably, the regions with the highest probability of above-normal temperatures include areas centered around New Mexico and Maine. This warmer trend is also expected to impact parts of Nevada, Arizona, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

The southwestern U.S. has already faced extreme heat this year, with several record-breaking temperatures. Cities like Las Vegas and Phoenix have seen some of the most intense conditions, with Phoenix enduring 77 consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally, July 2024 became the second hottest month on record for the region.

Although NOAA’s forecast refers to temperatures relative to historical averages rather than absolute numbers, the outlook suggests that some areas, such as New England, may not experience the typical seasonal cooling as fall approaches. This means regions accustomed to crisp autumn weather could see more extended summer-like conditions, offering a longer window for beach outings and summer clothing.

While the forecast doesn’t imply sweltering heat in every area, it indicates that significant portions of the country could see less of the usual autumn chill.
