“Magnitude 4.2 Earthquake Shakes Residents South of Bay Area Overnight”

Some Californians were jolted awake around 2:45 a.m. Sunday by a magnitude 4.2 earthquake that struck near the Central Coast. The epicenter was located about 2 miles northwest of Aromas, an unincorporated community situated between Monterey and San Benito counties, roughly 90 miles south of San Francisco.

The United States Geological Survey reported that the earthquake had a depth of about 4.59 miles and was widely felt throughout the region, according to its “Did You Feel It?” user-reported map. The quake occurred near the San Andreas fault line in the Santa Cruz Mountains section.

No immediate reports of damage or injuries have been made.
