LUCKY Residents of one town in America could be entitled to up to $20,000 to buy a home and the eligibility criteria is simple
According to The SUN USA, Residents of Cumberland, Maryland, have a unique opportunity to receive up to $20,000 to buy a home, thanks to an enticing offer from the town aimed at attracting new residents.
The town of Cumberland is offering this generous cash incentive to encourage families to relocate and start a new life there, as reported by the New York Post.
According to the Cumberland town website, the package includes up to $20,000, which consists of $10,000 in relocation cash and an additional $10,000 as a dollar-for-dollar match. This matched amount can be used for approved renovations on an existing home or as a down payment on a newly constructed home within the city limits.
The offer highlights Cumberland’s convenient location and access to natural surroundings. The town is just a two-hour drive from Baltimore and is situated on the Potomac River in Allegany County, about two and a half hours from Annapolis, Maryland. Cumberland also boasts 70,000 acres of nature and a rich history due to its proximity to major cities like Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
The website also emphasizes Cumberland’s “95% broadband connectivity,” as well as its interstate highway and rail access, making it an attractive option for those who want to enjoy a small-town lifestyle with modern amenities.
Cumberland, which had a population of 18,769 in 2022, has seen a population decline of 12% between 2020 and 2022, according to city data. This initiative appears to be part of the town’s efforts to reverse this trend and bring new residents to the community.
“Cumberland has a strong and growing sense of place, big enough to provide services and infrastructure, small enough that everyone matters,” the website notes. The town also receives a quarter-million visitors annually, attracted by its entertainment and cultural options, which are unique for a small town in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Cumberland offers walkable neighborhoods and round-the-clock fire, police, and emergency services, making it a safe and appealing place to live.
How to Apply
To qualify for the incentive, applicants must purchase a home in Cumberland and live in it as their primary residence for at least five years. If purchasing a newly constructed home, the property must be valued at no less than $150,000.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the United States with full-time employment. They should have existing local employment, proof of self-employment, or be in the process of accepting a job in the area.
