According to The Sun, Just days remain for customers to score massive discounts at Bob’s Stores, the beloved clothing retailer, before it shuts down all of its locations. With liquidation sales offering discounts of up to 90% off, shoppers are encouraged to take advantage of these deals before they disappear.

Bankruptcy Announcement

Bob’s Stores, a prominent name on the East Coast for nearly 70 years, filed for bankruptcy earlier this summer due to significant financial struggles. In a press release dated July 1, company president Dave Barton expressed regret over the decision to liquidate. “Bob’s has been a stalwart of our local communities… we know our customers remember us as having been there for major moments in their lives,” he stated, acknowledging the support from vendors, suppliers, customers, and employees over the years.

While Barton did not specify the exact closure dates for each location, some stores are set to close as early as September 28. A Facebook post by customer David Sandler confirmed that the Middleton, Massachusetts location is closing soon, showing photos of a nearly empty store filled with liquidation signs.

Unbelievable Deals for Shoppers

The excitement is palpable as shoppers like Andrew Sangkala highlight the unbelievable deals available at the 21 locations across six states. “UP TO 90% OFF AND extra 50% off clearance sections,” Sangkala noted in a post, emphasizing that items such as men’s work boots are discounted by 60%, and winter wear is up to 80% off.

It remains unclear if the locations in Centereach, New York, West Islip, New York, and Freehold, New Jersey will close on the same day as the Massachusetts store, as the closure dates may vary from one location to another. Although a closure date of July 14 was initially announced for the 21 Bob’s Stores, some are still open to clear out remaining inventory.

Mixed Reactions from Customers

Frequent shoppers have expressed mixed feelings about the bankruptcy and impending closures. Some customers felt it was time for the retailer to close its doors. “Good riddance. They never changed their store/business model,” one dissatisfied shopper remarked online. Others placed the blame on e-commerce giants like Amazon, claiming these companies have made it difficult for discount brick-and-mortar retailers to survive. “Amazon wins again,” one shopper vented on X, echoing the sentiments of others who see this as a sign of the times.

The Retail Landscape in Crisis

The closure of Bob’s Stores is part of a larger trend of struggles faced by brick-and-mortar retailers in 2024. The retail landscape has seen a significant bloodbath, with companies like Big Lots filing for bankruptcy and planning to close 545 stores. LL Flooring also entered Chapter 11 and reverted to its previous name, Lumber Liquidators, cutting nearly half of its locations. Even competitors in the clothing sector, like Express and Rue21, have announced plans to close around 100 stores and all locations, respectively, after filing for bankruptcy.

As Bob’s Stores approaches its final days, shoppers are urged to take advantage of the incredible sales while they still can, marking the end of an era for this iconic retailer.
