LAST CHANCE: Americans Have Just Hours to Claim a One-time Payment from $1.8m Admin Fee Settlement

According to The SUN USA Maryland residents could be eligible for a one-time payment from a $1.8 million settlement related to a utility company’s administrative fees, but the window to file a claim is closing quickly.

RealPage Utility Management has agreed to the $1.8 million settlement to resolve claims that it unlawfully charged administrative fees. The settlement covers Maryland residents who were charged an administration fee by the company between April 1, 2017, and June 30, 2023.

The lawsuit alleges that RealPage sent monthly statements to customers that included utilities and other fees, along with an unlawful administrative fee. Although RealPage has not admitted any wrongdoing, it has agreed to the settlement to resolve the class action lawsuit.

How to Claim Your Payment

To be eligible for a payment, Maryland residents who received these fees must file a claim by the end of today, September 2. Those who submit a claim on time could receive a pro-rata payment, which will be distributed based on the amount of administrative fees they were charged. The final payment amount will depend on the number of claims filed.

As part of the settlement, RealPage Utility Management has also agreed to apply for a Maryland collection agency license.

Who Qualifies?

Approximately 233,000 individuals are estimated to be part of the class that qualifies for a payment. To be eligible, you must have been a Maryland customer charged by RealPage between April 2017 and June 2023 and file your claim by today.

It’s important to note that about one-third of the $1.8 million settlement will be allocated to cover attorney fees. The exact timeline for when class members will receive their payments has not yet been disclosed.

This settlement is one of several recent class actions across the U.S., including a $1.5 million software data breach settlement, a dating app’s $40 million settlement, and a $3.875 million settlement involving two canned tuna companies.
