Newly obtained court documents detail an alleged kidnapping attempt that occurred in southern New Mexico, involving violence and threats of murder. According to the documents, a group of men forcefully removed the victim, Ramon Diaz, from his home. Among the attackers was 25-year-old Yulian Lopez Polanco, a Canutillo resident, who is named in the arrest documents. The group reportedly beat Diaz with their hands, feet, and even bolt cutters.

The incident, which took place on April 29, 2024, was captured on video and posted to social media. Investigators used this footage to identify Lopez Polanco, who later confessed to “battering and assisting in the kidnapping” of Diaz. According to Lopez Polanco, he was coerced into participating by a man named Cesar Chavez-Lujan, who allegedly threatened and ordered him to carry out the attack. Authorities are still gathering more information on Chavez-Lujan.

On the day of the alleged kidnapping, Diaz’s son reported him missing. However, later that day, Diaz appeared at the Sunland Park Police Station after being released from the hospital, where he was treated for rib fractures and multiple cuts to his face and body. Police reports did not specify how Diaz managed to escape his captors and make it to the hospital.

During his statement to police, Diaz revealed that his kidnappers had put him into a car and planned to take him to Juarez to kill him. Fortunately, their plan was thwarted.

Lopez Polanco was arrested by El Paso County law enforcement in May on unrelated drug possession charges. He was held in the El Paso Jail Annex until his transfer to the Dona Ana County Detention Facility, where he is currently being held without bond. He now faces charges of kidnapping and aggravated battery, which could result in serious injury or death.
