Icy Hazards on I-40 Near Clines Corners: New Mexico Freezing Fog Alert

Drivers in eastern New Mexico encountered freezing fog Tuesday morning, making travel difficult, especially along I-40 near Clines Corners. The National Weather Service has issued a warning that the fog could persist until around 9 a.m., with icy patches left over from Monday’s snow further complicating road conditions.

The National Weather Service’s Albuquerque office reports that visibility remains low in areas extending from the Estancia Basin to Clines Corners. Commuters are advised to slow down and allow for extra travel time, especially on I-40. Conditions are expected to improve as the fog clears by mid-morning, with clear skies anticipated for the rest of the day.

Looking ahead, Albuquerque will experience sunny weather through Friday, with daytime temperatures ranging from 45 to 52 degrees. Wednesday’s high will be around 46 degrees, accompanied by light north winds, while overnight lows could drop to 18 degrees. Thursday will remain clear and calm, with a high of 49 degrees.

By Friday, warmer temperatures in the low 50s are expected, with Saturday bringing mostly sunny skies and a high of 47 degrees. A slight chance of snow showers is forecast for Saturday night into Sunday, but any significant impacts are expected to be minimal.
