Simone Biles had an almost constant smile on her face while competing at the Olympics in Paris on her terms. The Texas native expressed her gratitude to her parents, Nellie and Ronald, for supporting her to achieve historic accomplishment, after winning four medals to bring back to the United States.

“You were someone who dreamt of being a gymnast, and you’re here today,” On Tuesday, August 6, in front of the Eiffel Tower, Hoda Kotb, host of the Today show, told Simone. You would respond, “If it weren’t for blank, I wouldn’t be here today,” if you had to. Who is that person, if not for blank?

Without a doubt, the 27-year-old professional athlete knew exactly what to say when she replied, “If not for my parents and adoption, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Along with teammates U.S.A. women’s gymnasts Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera, Simone won two gold, one silver, and one team gold medal during her incredible run at the Paris Games.

Simone’s parents and husband Jonathan Owens were there in the stands for the Paris Games, but this was not the case with her attendance at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, which took place in 2021.

“This was like a cherry on top for them because they missed Tokyo [because of COVID-19],” the gymnast said to Hoda, 59, earlier in the interview. “They were absolutely thrilled to see all the girls compete—almost the same girls as in Tokyo—because Paris is such a gorgeous city.”

Hoda, who adopted daughters Haley and Hope, was rendered speechless by Simone’s poignant response. She described the scene as “so beautiful.” Following their viewing of an Instagram footage of the interview, fans were likewise overcome with emotion.

In the video’s comments section, one user said, “Hit Hoda right in the feels.” The video was shared by the official Today show account.

Blood has the same thickness as water. The thickest of all is love! “Hoda must have loved her response, having adopted two children herself,” a second fan said in a remark. Hoda and Simone are very adorable!

“A wonderful illustration of why adoption is such an amazing thing,” exclaimed a third admirer. Every young boy and girl has the right to pursue their aspirations.

Over the years, Simone has been transparent about her unconventional family structure. Due to her battles with addiction, the SK-II spokeswoman’s biological mother, Shannon Biles, placed her and her three siblings up for adoption.

Three years later, Simone’s biological father, Ronald Clemons, was no longer involved, so Shannon’s estranged father, Ronald, took over the children’s care.

In 2003, Simone and her younger sister Adria were adopted by Simone’s biological grandfather and Nellie, who reared them in Spring, Texas. Simone’s two older siblings, Ashley and Tevin, were adopted by Ronald’s sister in the interim.

“It’s also absurd to explain that to people because I say things like, ‘My dad is my dad’s daughter and I call him dad.'” During an April interview on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Simone told Alex Cooper. It seems like everyone is quite perplexed. You’re like, “Don’t make me explain this whole family tree.” My parents will always be my parents. I was selected. I’m feeling quite fortunate.
