Charles, Oliver, and Mabel Head to Hollywood
The trio’s true-crime podcast is getting the Hollywood treatment, with a film adaptation featuring some very famous faces. Eugene Levy will take on the role of Charles-Haden Savage, originally played by Steve Martin, while Zach Galifianakis steps into the shoes of Martin Short’s Oliver Putnam. Eva Longoria will portray Selena Gomez’s character, Mabel Mora, on the big screen. Joining them in Season 4 is Molly Shannon, who plays a studio executive.
The trailer teases some hilarious moments as the Hollywood stars attempt “character studies” with Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, though things don’t go quite as planned. However, the A-listers soon find themselves wrapped up in a new murder mystery that the trio needs to solve.
Another Murder in the Building
As expected, another murder takes place within the building. The Season 3 finale left viewers on edge as Jane Lynch’s character, Sazz, was shot through Charles’ apartment window, leaving her bleeding out on the floor. As she lay dying, she scrawled something in blood, setting the stage for the new season’s mystery.
Season 4 will follow Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, along with their Hollywood counterparts, as they dive into the investigation to uncover who wanted to kill Sazz or Charles. In need of a safe hideout, the trio retreats to Long Island to stay at Charles’ sister’s home, where she finally meets and critiques his podcast colleagues.
Will Jane Lynch Return in Season 4 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’?
Even though Sazz met her end in the Season 3 finale, Jane Lynch will still appear in five of the ten episodes in Season 4. “I’m the murder victim, which is not a tease. And so, I have some really great flashbacks,” she revealed in an interview with People on May 9, 2024.
Lynch added, “I don’t want to give too much away, but I’m in it a lot … so I’m excited.”
Is Meryl Streep Returning for Season 4 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’?
Yes! Meryl Streep is reprising her role as Loretta Durkin. She will cross paths with Oliver when he’s in Hollywood dealing with the production of the podcast’s movie.
Eva Longoria spilled the beans before the trailer dropped, which confirmed Meryl’s return. Eva gushed about her Only Murders in the Building Season 4 co-stars, saying, “Meryl Streep. Melissa McCarthy. Eugene Levy. Zach Galifianakis. Paul Rudd. There was one scene where we were all together, and I was like, ‘How is this my life?’ I’m so excited,” she told Entertainment Tonight on June 20.
Selena Gomez Teases ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 4
In an interview published by The Hollywood Reporter on August 5, 2024, Selena Gomez teased fans, saying, “I think this is our most exciting season yet. That’s what I would definitely say with confidence, because it was far too fun.”
She continued, “How it all came together was so magical. Everyone had a blast. And people are in for a ride, you know. Taking us to L.A. and then doing all the other stuff is exciting. It’s going to be, to date, probably my favorite season.”
