According to The Sun, CLIF Bar is shelling out millions of dollars to settle claims that its labeling misled customers regarding the healthiness of its products. The company, known for its protein and snack bars targeted at outdoor enthusiasts, children, and other consumers, has agreed to a $12 million settlement.

The lawsuit alleges that CLIF Bar’s packaging made its products appear healthier than they actually are, particularly due to the high added sugar content in the bars. While the company has not admitted to any wrongdoing, the settlement aims to resolve the false advertising lawsuit and compensate affected customers.

Cash Payments for Eligible Customers

Eligible customers can receive cash payments based on the number of bars they purchased, with a maximum payout of $50. The payment tiers are as follows:

  • $5 for up to 30 bars
  • $10 for between 31 and 59 bars
  • $15 for over 60 bars

Payments can be claimed with or without proof of purchase. However, customers who provide proof can receive $15 for the first 60 bars, with an additional 25 cents per bar for any purchases beyond that, up to a maximum total payment of $50.

How to Determine Eligibility

To be eligible for compensation, customers must have purchased one of the qualifying products. This includes CLIF Bars labeled with phrases like “Nutrition for Sustained Energy” and CLIF Kid ZBars that make claims such as “No High Fructose Corn Syrup” and “Nourishing Kids in Motion.”
