According to The Sun, Popeyes has reintroduced a fan-favorite entrée just in time for Thanksgiving, aiming to help families prepare for the holiday season in 2024. While the fast-food chain is renowned for its fried chicken, the Cajun-Style Turkey has gained significant attention over the past few years.

A Unique Holiday Offering

Originally introduced three years ago, the Cajun-Style Turkey is “hand-rubbed & infused” with a “signature blend of Louisiana seasonings,” according to the Popeyes website. This pre-cooked turkey saves customers valuable time during the Thanksgiving rush, as the preparation process is as simple as thawing, heating, and serving.

Thawing and Cooking Instructions

Popeyes recommends that customers thaw the turkey for 72 hours in the refrigerator before cooking or reheating it. Once prepared, the turkey must be consumed within three days. The Cajun-Style Turkey is designed to serve at least eight to twelve guests and weighs between 11 to 13 pounds. Customers can conveniently order the entrée for pickup at their local Popeyes restaurant or opt for delivery.

Price Increase Sparks Reactions

While many Popeyes customers have expressed excitement about the return of this Thanksgiving staple, some have noted a significant price change. In a Reddit thread discussing the Cajun-Style Turkey, one user remarked, “It’s really good. But I remember when they used to be $39.99.” Another commenter added, “Now it’s $99? Yikes!”

Though the $99 figure isn’t uniform across all locations, as prices vary based on pickup or delivery options, the price for pickup is around $54. This marks an increase from previous years when the turkey was priced at $39.99, reflecting about a $14 hike.

Despite the price increase, many customers have shared their willingness to pay for the dish. One customer praised last year’s turkey, stating, “I used the juices to make an even better gravy.” Another added, “If you are looking for a quick and easy option, do yourself a favor and get this. It’s one of the best turkeys I’ve ever had.”

Competing Thanksgiving Offerings

In addition to Popeyes, several major retailers have launched their Thanksgiving offerings to assist customers amid rising food costs. Aldi introduced its “lowest-priced” Thanksgiving basket earlier this month for $47, which includes a Butterball turkey, gravy, stuffing, spices, rolls, and ingredients for side dishes like cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie.

Walmart has also released a competing Thanksgiving basket for around $50, featuring over 29 items and ingredients. Walmart’s offering is labeled as “inflation-free” and can be purchased and donated to the Salvation Army for customers wishing to make a charitable gesture during the holiday season.

Conclusion

As families prepare for Thanksgiving, Popeyes’ Cajun-Style Turkey offers a convenient option, despite some price adjustments. With various retailers providing their own Thanksgiving baskets, customers have plenty of choices to ensure a festive and affordable holiday meal.
