PYREX is set to refund thousands of customers as part of an $88,000 settlement related to misleading labeling practices. More than 10,200 customers who purchased Pyrex measuring cups that were marketed in a misleading manner will receive compensation.

The settlement arises from an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which found that some measuring cups advertised as “Made in USA” by Instant Brands were actually produced in China. The controversy came to light in 2023 when the FTC charged the company with deceptive advertising practices.

Investigators discovered that while Pyrex has historically promoted its American-made identity, the increased demand during the COVID-19 pandemic led to the production of certain measuring cups in China. The FTC’s findings revealed that over 110,000 units of these Chinese-made measuring cup sets were sold to U.S. consumers under the misleading “Made in USA” label.

As part of the settlement, Instant Brands has agreed to refrain from making deceptive claims regarding the origin of its products. The FTC will issue checks to 10,259 affected consumers, with a median refund amount of approximately $8 per customer. Recipients are advised to cash their checks within 90 days, as specified on the checks.

Every state has at least one affected consumer, indicating the widespread nature of this issue. Consumers with questions about their refunds can contact the refund administrator, Simpluris, at 833-244-7320, or visit the FTC website for frequently asked questions regarding the refund process.

The FTC also emphasizes that individuals are not required to pay any money or provide account information to receive their refunds.
