FOOD FAIL: Grocery store with 180 locations is closing shop for good as customers are met with note on the door about final day
According to The Sun, Today marks the final day for shoppers at the Gordon Food Service store in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. An employee confirmed to The U.S. Sun that the store, located at 2609 S Oneida St, Green Bay, will be serving its last customers today, October 11. While the store typically remains open until 8 PM, it will close early at 5 PM.
Community Reaction to the Closure
News of the store’s closure has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, as local shoppers expressed their dismay. One Facebook user commented, “Probably don’t get enough business with Sam’s [Club] and Costco,” noting the competition posed by nearby retailers. This closure leaves only one other Gordon Food Service location in the northeastern Wisconsin area, reducing the chain’s footprint in the state to just six locations, including a distribution center.

Retail Landscape Shifts
Gordon Food Service is not the only retailer facing closures. Amazon Go recently announced the closure of three locations in New York City, effective September 27. A spokesperson explained that while these stores were performing well, the company could not justify the lease costs when the renewal came up. The closed locations include 11 West 42nd Street, One Liberty, and 30 Rockefeller Center.
Additionally, Natural Grocers plans to close its Downtown Denver store, with its final day set for October 31. Sales have already begun, with shoppers able to enjoy a 10% discount on all products. However, customers will still have access to stores in the City Park West, Capitol Hill, Baker, and Cherry Creek areas.
