According to Lagradaonline, More than 70 million beneficiaries are eagerly awaiting confirmation of the new Social Security check increase for 2025. According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), the adjusted payments will be issued in January, following the Social Security payment schedule for the year. However, the exact payment amounts will depend on the official cost of living adjustment (COLA) set to be announced next month by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

While the final percentage for the COLA increase is yet to be confirmed, projections from the Senior Citizens League (TSCL) suggest it could fall between 2.73% and 3.2%. For those eligible for Social Security payments, here’s what you need to know about the anticipated payment dates and estimated amounts.

Payment Schedule for January 2025

The SSA is responsible for distributing five sets of payments each month. Beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Retirement, Survivor, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) programs will receive their first payments on the first and third days of each month. However, since January 1st is a federal holiday, SSI beneficiaries will receive their payments a day early, on Tuesday, December 31st.

Moreover, because February 1st falls on a weekend, the SSA will reschedule the next payment for Friday, January 31st. Although SSI beneficiaries won’t receive their regular monthly benefits in January, they will still get an early payment for February. Other beneficiaries—specifically retirees, survivors, and disabled individuals who applied for benefits before May 1997—will continue to receive their regular payments on the third day of each month. Those who applied after this date will see their payments staggered based on their birth dates.

Estimated Payment Amounts for 2025

The amount beneficiaries receive from Social Security varies based on several factors, including age, work history, and contributions made during employment. For those qualifying under the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program, the monthly payment amount is also influenced by specific disability conditions. The value of these benefits is adjusted annually to reflect the COLA, which is essential for helping beneficiaries keep pace with inflation.

Although the official COLA increase will not be released until October, we can estimate how much Social Security payments could rise based on a projected 2.73% increase. It’s important to note that these figures are estimates and could change depending on the final COLA percentage.
