A San Mateo County jury has found Jose Enrique Uriarte Martinez guilty of first-degree murder and attempted murder in connection with a stabbing incident that resulted in the death of his ex-girlfriend and left her 17-year-old daughter injured. The violent crimes took place in July of last year while Uriarte-Martinez was on felony probation. The verdict was announced yesterday by the San Mateo County District Attorney’s office.
The tragic events unfolded early on July 30, 2023, when San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to frantic calls for help from a woman at a residence on the 3200 block of Fair Oaks Avenue in Redwood City. Upon their arrival, deputies found Uriarte-Martinez covered in blood outside the home. Inside, they discovered a disturbing scene with two victims suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Despite the prompt medical assistance provided by deputies and their swift transport to Stanford Hospital, Uriarte-Martinez’s ex-girlfriend tragically succumbed to her injuries. Fortunately, her daughter survived the brutal attack. Law enforcement officials have characterized the incident as a domestic violence case. Uriarte-Martinez, 44, a resident of Redwood City, was quickly apprehended and remains in custody without bail.
