Fire Crews Report $10K in Damages from Peninsula Home Bathroom Malfunction
A malfunctioning bathroom fan is being blamed for a fire that caused significant damage to a mobile home in Mountain View on Saturday. According to the Mountain View Fire Department (MVFD), firefighters responded to a 911 call just after 4:30 a.m. regarding a fire on the 1000 block of Space Park Way. Both residents had safely evacuated before fire crews arrived.
A Mountain View Police Department officer, who arrived on the scene before the firefighters, used a fire extinguisher to suppress the flames coming from an electrical exhaust fan. Once MVFD arrived, they conducted a thorough inspection, cutting open the ceiling to check for any fire spread and ensure all flames were extinguished.
The city of Mountain View reported that the residents received a $250 gift card from the California Professional Firefighters Union’s Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program to assist with immediate needs.
The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damages, but no injuries were reported. After the fire was contained, the residents were allowed to return to their home.
