According to The Sun, Consumers who purchased Clif Bars within the last decade may be eligible to receive a portion of a $12 million settlement resulting from a class action lawsuit against Clif Bar & Company.
The Lawsuit Details
The lawsuit alleged that Clif Bar misled consumers by promoting its protein bars as “nutrition for sustained energy,” which obscured the high sugar content in the products. While the bars emphasize that they contain no high fructose corn syrup, nearly 40% of their calorie content comes from added sugars, according to the lawsuit.
The complaint, filed in 2018, claims, “Clif markets these so-called ‘nutrition’ bars with labeling and packaging claims that convey a health and wellness message with the goal of increasing the price and sales.” It also highlights that sugar acts as a chronic liver toxin and emphasizes the need for consumers to be aware of the health implications of the ingredients.
Settlement Agreement
Although Clif Bar denied any wrongdoing and a court never determined the validity of the claims, the company agreed to pay $12 million to establish a settlement fund.
Who is Eligible?
Individuals who purchased an Original Clif Bar or Clif Kid ZBar in California or New York between April 2014 and March 2023 are eligible for a payout.

- 31 to 60 Bars: $10 payment
- Over 61 Bars: $15 payment without needing to provide receipts
Eligible consumers with proof of purchase can claim $15 for the first 60 bars, with an additional $0.25 for each bar purchased thereafter.
Important Dates
Claim forms can be submitted online or by mail. The deadline to submit claims is November 25, while individuals wishing to opt-out of the settlement must respond by October 22. A court will make a final decision regarding the settlement on November 14.
Additional Settlement Opportunities
In addition to the Clif Bar settlement, other companies are also providing substantial payouts due to class action lawsuits. Some Americans may receive a one-time payment of $3,000 from a privacy settlement that does not require receipts. Additionally, a separate $11.5 million settlement is available for consumers related to a furniture company’s alleged false advertising.
Eligible individuals should act quickly to claim their payments to avoid missing out on these financial opportunities before the deadlines pass.
