According to THE SUN, Subscribers of Allure’s popular monthly beauty service have expressed outrage after being overcharged $35 for products, prompting the company to issue an apology and promise refunds.
The Allure Beauty Box, a subscription service that delivers about six editor-tested beauty products valued around $100 each month, usually charges $25 per subscriber. However, a recent glitch left some customers frustrated and out of pocket.
Allure Apologizes for Payment Processing Error
In a statement posted on Facebook, Allure Beauty Box acknowledged the mistake: “To our valued Allure Beauty Box community, we discovered that our payment processor inadvertently overcharged a handful of members by $35. Rest assured, we will be issuing refunds promptly.”
The company also encouraged affected subscribers to reach out to customer service with any concerns, emphasizing their commitment to resolving the issue.
Customer Frustration Grows Over Overcharge and Tax Fees
Many customers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with how the overcharge was handled, particularly when it came to tax refunds. Subscriber Alicia shared her frustrating experience: “Before I even knew this was an issue I spent 28 mins on the phone with a customer service rep… I was told I was only getting $35 refunded. I asked about the tax, which was $3.06, and they said, ‘It’s company policy that we do not refund taxes.'”
Alicia described her anger at being told to submit her purchase on her tax return for potential recovery, calling it “stealing money from customers.” Allure responded by apologizing for her “bad experience” and confirmed she had since been refunded $38.06 to cover both the incorrect charge and taxes.
Customers Left With Overdraft Fees and Frustration
Other subscribers expressed frustration with how the overcharge disrupted their finances. Joanna shared that the charge caused one of her large bills to bounce: “I carefully transfer just enough money into this account each week to cover whatever is on autopay… This is super frustrating as I’m now going to be charged for the kicked back payment.”
Another subscriber, Vicki, revealed that the overcharge led to her account going into overdraft, as she needed to pay her rent that day. “I am sooo upset… now I have to pay a fee as well! I was overcharged $37.80,” she wrote. Allure responded, asking for her details to provide further assistance.
Previous Overcharging Issues at Walmart and Safeway
Allure isn’t the only company to face backlash over overcharges. In May, Walmart admitted to a technical issue that led to overcharging customers in some stores. Additionally, the retailer recently agreed to pay $45 million in a class-action lawsuit accusing them of overcharging for certain weighed goods.
In a separate incident, a Safeway shopper claimed on social media that they were overcharged at a store in San Jose, California.
