Andrew Whittenberg, the man arrested by Farmington Police in connection with a deadly shooting on Monday, made his first court appearance on Tuesday morning. Whittenberg faces several charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, larceny of a firearm, and tampering with evidence.
Court documents reveal that Whittenberg allegedly broke into a home on Kayenta Drive, where he stole an AR-15 style rifle. While officers were responding to the break-in, they heard gunshots nearby on English Road. It was there that they discovered the body of Kelly Heath, with whom Whittenberg reportedly had a “personal relationship,” according to court filings.
A second shooting occurred on East Main Street, where police say Whittenberg fatally shot Brent Francis outside his workplace.
Whittenberg was taken into custody by the San Juan County Sheriff’s Department and later handed over to Farmington Police.
