NEW MEXICO –  John Town has been sentenced to eight years in prison following his conviction for carjacking a vehicle containing two children.

In March 2023, law enforcement officers tracked Town and his accomplice as they carjacked a vehicle near the intersection of Pajarito and Coors. The vehicle, which had two children in the backseat, was quickly stopped by authorities, leading to the arrest of Town and his passenger.

Town subsequently accepted a plea deal, admitting guilt to charges of attempted kidnapping, vehicle theft, and aggravated fleeing. Judge Joseph Montano handed down an eight-year prison sentence, which is a reduction from the maximum possible sentence of 13 years.
