Drug Take Back Day in California: Clear Out Unwanted Pills and Protect the Environment
This Saturday, October 26, residents are encouraged to participate in the second DEA Drug Take Back event of the year, hosted at the San Mateo Elks Lodge, located at 229 W. 20th Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event offers the community a chance to safely dispose of any unused, unwanted, or expired prescription pills and patches.
The initiative aims to prevent prescription drugs from being misused and to protect the environment by keeping medications out of landfills and waterways. The first Drug Take Back event of the year, held in April, saw widespread participation, with 4,607 law enforcement agencies overseeing 4,869 collection sites, which collectively disposed of 335 tons of medications. Since the program’s inception, a total of 9,285 tons of prescription drugs have been safely collected.
Community members are encouraged to use this opportunity to clear out their medicine cabinets, supporting public safety and environmental preservation in the process.
