Doughnut Shortage Affects Hundreds of Dunkin’ Locations Nationwide

Imagine arriving at your favorite Dunkin’ only to find out that the doughnuts are completely sold out. Unfortunately, this is becoming a reality for some Dunkin’ fans, as a doughnut shortage is affecting hundreds of locations across the U.S.

The issue, which has been particularly impacting stores in Nebraska, New Mexico, and Arizona, was reported by Newsweek. On January 9 and 10, many Dunkin’ stores in Nebraska displayed signs apologizing to customers and explaining that doughnuts were unavailable due to a “manufacturing error.” Despite this, some stores continued to sell Munchkins (doughnut holes) in place of full-sized doughnuts. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, employees attributed the shortage to supply chain disruptions, while others mentioned delivery trucks arriving without doughnuts.

While many locations in northern cities like Boston, where Dunkin’ enjoys widespread popularity, haven’t been affected by the shortage, about 4 percent of Dunkin’s 9,500 U.S. stores (approximately 380 locations) have experienced some form of doughnut drought.

Jack D’Amato, a spokesperson for Dunkin’s parent company, Inspire Brands, confirmed that the shortage was the result of a supplier issue affecting multiple states, including Nebraska. Inspire Brands is currently investigating the cause of the disruption and assessing the full extent of the impact. Some stores have already restocked, and Dunkin’ has pledged to diversify its supply chains and expand capacity to prevent future shortages.

Despite the hiccup, there is some good news for Dunkin’: Locations that haven’t run out of doughnuts are seeing an uptick in customers. Employees are hopeful that more doughnuts will be delivered soon. In the meantime, it might be a good idea to call your local Dunkin’ before heading out to ensure they’re fully stocked.
