DON’T DELAY: TWO lottery tickets remain unclaimed, each worth more than $2 million
According to The SUN USA, Two California Lottery winners are on the brink of losing out on their substantial prizes, with one having just hours left to claim their winnings and the other only a few weeks to secure their millions.
Unclaimed Mega Millions Prize
The first winning ticket, a Mega Millions ticket worth $2,151,945, was purchased at a Stater Bros. Market located at 69255 Ramon Road in Cathedral City. This ticket matched five of the six drawn numbers—2, 49, 50, 61, and 70—but missed the Mega number 14.
The deadline for claiming this prize was technically 5 PM on August 30, as the ticket expires on Sunday, September 1. However, lottery officials will still accept a completed claim form, along with the winning ticket, if it is mailed to the lottery’s headquarters in San Francisco and postmarked by Saturday, August 31.
Unclaimed Powerball Prize
The second unclaimed prize, a Powerball ticket worth $2,462,356, was purchased at a 7-Eleven store located at 12500 Roscoe Boulevard in Sun Valley. This ticket also matched five of the six numbers drawn—6, 23, 25, 34, and 51—but missed the Powerball number 3.
The deadline to claim this Powerball prize is Thursday, September 19. Lottery winners in California have 180 days from the draw date to claim their prize.
What Happens to Unclaimed Prizes?
If these prizes go unclaimed, the funds will be donated to California public schools, as has been the case since the state’s lottery began in 1985. Over $1.1 billion in unclaimed prize money has already been contributed to the state’s public education system.
A Nationwide Reminder
Lottery officials across the United States are urging players to double-check their tickets, as there are dozens of unclaimed prizes across the country, some with multi-million dollar jackpots. From convenience store purchases in multiple states to a Mega Millions jackpot in Texas, there’s still plenty of unclaimed prize money waiting for its rightful owners.
Recently, a Powerball ticket purchased at a Fareway grocery store in Iowa remains unclaimed, as well as a lotto ticket in La Grange, Illinois, with winnings amounting to over $4 million.
