
Fire crews from the U.S. Forest Service and Otero County are actively battling a wildfire estimated to be 100 acres in size. While the flames are not posing a direct threat to Cloudcroft, officials are closely monitoring the situation.
The Cloudcroft Fire Department reassured residents that the Village of Cloudcroft remains safe. However, authorities have issued evacuation orders for individuals residing between mile markers 31 and 33 along Highway 82 in Mayhill.

To assist those affected, Cloudcroft High School has been designated as an evacuation shelter, as confirmed by the Tularosa Basin Regional Dispatch Authority.
Officials emphasize that this remains an active and evolving situation, though both Cloudcroft and Ruidoso are currently not at risk. Emergency responders continue to assess conditions and provide updates as needed .
