A packed house filled the Alamogordo City Commission Chambers Tuesday evening as residents turned out in force for a highly anticipated proposal that could breathe new life into a long-vacant facility.
At the heart of public interest was a presentation by representatives from the Mescalero Apache Tribe and the Inn of the Mountain Gods, who unveiled their vision to revitalize the shuttered Alamogordo Family Fun Center. The proposal aims to transform the site into a vibrant, community-centered attraction offering affordable family entertainment.
City staff, who have collaborated with the Inn’s leadership over the past months, gave their full endorsement of the proposal. Following the presentation and discussion, commissioners voted unanimously to approve a management contract with the Inn of the Mountain Gods.
After more than a year of vacancy, this partnership signals a promising future for the long-dormant facility. The new entertainment hub could feature bowling, dining, virtual golf, an escape room, and a strong emphasis on community programming—elements not previously offered in the area.
