CHECK IT OUT: More than 72 million Americans to get direct one-off payment of up to $1,900 in 2 days – how to claim your money
According to THE SUN, Millions of Americans are set to receive direct payments of up to $1,900 from the Social Security Administration (SSA) this month. The SSA has outlined a detailed payment schedule, with some beneficiaries already having received their payments.
- For those who began receiving benefits before May 1997: Payments were sent out on July 3.
- For individuals born between the 1st and 10th of any month: Payments will be deposited on July 10.
- For those born between the 11th and 20th of any month: Payments will be made on July 17.
- For individuals born between the 21st and 31st of any month: Payments will be scheduled for July 24.
The SSA encourages beneficiaries to sign up for direct deposit to ensure timely and efficient receipt of their funds. Beneficiaries can set this up online, in person at their bank, or by contacting the Social Security office directly.
Challenges for Some Beneficiaries
While many are preparing to receive their payments, some individuals have faced unexpected issues.
California resident Vicki Estrada, 75, recently discovered she owed $33,000 to the SSA. Estrada was shocked to receive a letter earlier this year informing her of an overpayment issue dating back ten years. Initially dismissing the letter as a mistake, she later noticed a significant reduction in her SSI distribution, prompting her to seek legal assistance.
Her attorney, Joe Fraulob, criticized the SSA for poor calculation practices and confusing communication. Fraulob argued that the miscalculations were the SSA’s fault and that Estrada had been overpaid by $300 each month for over a decade. After filing waivers, requests, and contacting California lawmakers, Fraulob successfully negotiated the cancellation of the $33,000 debt.
