
According to The Sun, Dozens of Americans are set to receive one-time payments exceeding $3,000 as part of a $5.1 million settlement regarding privacy violations by Magid Gloves.
Settlement Details
The settlement addresses claims that Magid Gloves violated Illinois laws by using fingerprint time clocks and temperature scanners without proper disclosures about collecting biometric information. The class action lawsuit argued that this practice violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).
Eligibility for Payments
Anyone who utilized either the fingerprint time clocks or temperature scanners at Magid’s Romeoville facility in Illinois between January 8, 2016, and August 30, 2024, is eligible for the settlement. Those who used the fingerprint scan device could receive payments of approximately $3,244.38, while individuals whose temperatures were taken using a scanner may claim up to $135.26.
Important Dates
The deadline for exclusion and objection is October 29, and the final approval hearing for the settlement is set for December 20.
Additional Settlement for Group 1001 Customers
In related news, many Americans can also claim one-time payments of up to $5,000 following a separate £4.76 million data breach settlement involving the insurance company Group 1001. This settlement is in response to a data breach that allegedly compromised sensitive customer information in February 2023.

Group 1001 Settlement Benefits
Under the terms of this settlement, customers, employees, dependents, and payees whose personal information may have been exposed can receive up to $5,000 in reimbursement for data breach-related losses, including bank fees, communication charges, travel expenses, and credit costs. Claimants can also receive compensation for up to four hours of lost time at a rate of $20 per hour.
Class members have the option to receive a pro rata cash payment instead of reimbursement, with amounts starting at a minimum of $5, depending on the number of valid claims submitted. Additionally, they will receive three years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services, which include benefits like $1 million in identity theft insurance.
Claim Process and Deadlines
To claim the cash from the Group 1001 settlement, individuals must provide documentation of their data breach-related losses, such as bills, receipts, and credit reports. The deadline for exclusion and objection is September 10, and the settlement’s final approval hearing will take place on October 3. Class members must submit a valid claim form by October 10, 2024, to receive their benefits.
