Bats, balls, and softball mitts were in action on Sunday as the city worked to “strike out” breast cancer.

The Parks and Recreation Department held its 5th annual “Strike Out Cancer” softball tournament at Los Altos Park and USS Bullhead Park.

This year’s event marked the largest turnout yet, with 71 teams competing across four divisions: men’s, women’s, senior women’s, and co-ed leagues.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the American Cancer Society, the New Mexico Cancer Center, and the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the tournament’s theme was pink, with pink balls, uniforms, and bases used throughout the event.
