BURGER BASH: Burger King fans furious over $13 purple whopper after chain promised customers it was free – and diner shows proof
According to The Sun, Burger King customers have expressed their frustration over a new menu offering that debuted this week. The fast-food giant launched a line of spooky-themed items on October 10, inspired by characters from The Addams Family, quickly grabbing the attention of patrons.
The new menu features quirky items like Gomez’s Churro Fries, Morticia’s Kooky Chocolate Shake, Thing’s Rings, and the much-anticipated Wednesday’s Whopper. Zahra Nurani, Burger King’s vice president of marketing communications, highlighted the excitement surrounding the partnership in a recent press release, stating that “guests are going to get a nice surprise.”
As part of the promotion, customers were offered a free Wednesday Whopper on October 17. This unique burger features a striking purple potato bun topped with black sesame seeds, setting it apart from other offerings. Inside, it includes a beef patty, lettuce, tomatoes, Swiss cheese, mayo, ketchup, pickles, and onions.
The Catch
However, some customers took to social media to express their disappointment. TikTok user Blessedbyboosie (@blessedbyboosie) posted a video claiming she was charged $13.98 for her order, which included the Wednesday Whopper, medium fries, and a medium soft drink. She displayed her receipt, saying, “It was not free — yeah, I know it spread around all over social media that it was supposed to be free today,” clearly frustrated.

So, what went wrong? The free Wednesday Whopper is exclusively available to Royal Perks rewards members of Burger King. Additionally, these members must order the special burger through the Burger King mobile app rather than in-store.
Don’t Miss Out
The promotion is part of a larger marketing campaign featuring The Addams Family menu, which runs from October 10 to November 10. Customers looking to take advantage of future deals should ensure they download the Burger King mobile app and sign up for Royal Perks to access the offers.
While the exact price of the Wednesday Whopper varies by location, a typical single-patty Whopper generally costs around $7.89.
Burger King has also recently attracted attention with its “Big Dip” tub of ranch dressing, offered for free with any Whopper. A recent coupon revealed that the price of a popular meal deal has increased by $6 over the past two years.
