BIG WIN: Americans in line for one-time payment from $920,000 wage settlement pot – no form is required

According to THE SUN, Employees of AOCLSC, an American oil manufacturer, may be eligible for a cash payment from a $920,000 settlement. This settlement addresses claims that the company failed to pay workers their rightful wages under California law.

Details of the Settlement

AOCLSC has agreed to settle the lawsuit for $920,000 without admitting wrongdoing. The class action alleges that AOCLSC did not pay hourly, minimum, and overtime wages, or other forms of compensation as required. The company also allegedly neglected to provide meal breaks, rest periods, and accurate wage statements.

Eligible employees worked in non-exempt hourly positions in California between May 8, 2019, and May 15, 2023. The settlement also covers employees under the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) who worked between June 1, 2021, and May 15, 2023.

How to Participate

Class members do not need to file a claim form but have until September 9, 2024, to challenge the number of workweeks used to calculate their payment. The deadline to exclude oneself from the settlement or object is October 9, 2024. Note that opting out of the PAGA portion of the settlement is not possible.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for November 8, 2024.

Other Settlements

Several other settlements are also available:

Tax Act Settlement: Individuals who used Tax Act’s online tax filing service may be eligible for a share of a $14.95 million settlement due to alleged privacy violations involving third parties like Meta and Google.

TD Bank Settlement: Customers may receive payments from a $32.335 million settlement if they were charged illegal overdraft fees between June 27, 2019, and September 30, 2022.

Tuna Price-Fixing Settlement: Shoppers who bought certain cans of tuna from June 1, 2011, to December 31, 2016, might be entitled to compensation from a $3.875 million settlement related to price-fixing allegations by StarKist and Lion Capital, among others.
