BIG RECALLED: Waffle Recall Sparks Warning in 14 States
According to Newsweek, Kodiak Cakes LLC has issued a voluntary recall of its Buttermilk and Vanilla Waffles after discovering the possibility of “soft plastic film” contamination. The recall affects Costco members in the Midwest region who purchased the Kodiak Power Waffles Buttermilk & Vanilla 40-count box with a use-by date of January 10, 2026. The impacted lot has the code 24193-WL4 and a timestamp between 12:00 and 23:00, with a UPC number of 705599019203.
Recall Details
Kodiak Cakes issued the recall after identifying the potential contamination, but noted that no injuries related to the product have been reported as of August 26. The recall is limited to this specific batch, and no other Kodiak products are impacted. Customers in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin are advised to return the affected waffles to Costco.
The affected products were sold between July 15 and August 25 and carry the item number 1745138. Kodiak shared photos of the recalled waffles in their letter to customers.

In their notice, the company emphasized, “The quality, safety, and integrity of our products is our number one priority at Kodiak. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and appreciate your cooperation in this matter.”

In addition to the Kodiak Cakes recall, numerous products have been pulled from shelves in the past month due to potential safety concerns. These recalls include products for lead contamination, undeclared allergens, and mold growth.
A nationwide recall of cinnamon products was issued over concerns of possible lead contamination. Additionally, Authentik Fudge of Canada recalled hundreds of units of its Chocolate Fudge with Nuts sold under the name “MONTREAL FUDGE” due to potential mold contamination. This product was distributed through Marshalls and TJ Maxx stores in select U.S. states.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that the recall was initiated after a customer found “mold pieces” inside a box of the fudge. The FDA stated that the manufacturing site also showed “beginning signs of mold” in other products. As of August 22, no illnesses had been reported, and the recall was limited to this specific batch.
