According to The Street, If you own an Insignia-branded air fryer, it might be time to check your model as Best Buy has just issued a significant recall. On Thursday, March 14, the electronics retailer announced the recall of nearly 300,000 air fryer units, including several types of Insignia Air Fryers and Air Fryer Ovens. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), these products pose “fire, burn, and laceration hazards” due to their tendency to overheat, causing damage to the handles or glass doors.

The recall follows 24 reported incidents of overheating, melting, or shattering glass, with six cases involving the air fryers catching fire. In total, Best Buy sold around 187,400 units in the U.S. and nearly 100,000 units in Canada.

The CPSC is advising anyone with one of the affected units to “immediately stop using” the device. Best Buy is offering affected customers the option to return their units for a refund or store credit. If you’re wondering if your air fryer is part of the recall, check the following model numbers:

This isn’t the first time Best Buy has recalled Insignia air fryers. In April 2022, the company recalled nearly 800,000 units of Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens for similar fire and burn hazards. At that time, Best Buy had received over 100 reports of overheating from U.S. and Canadian customers, some of which resulted in injuries, including one to a child. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far in relation to the March 2024 recall.
