Angelo Garcia, a distinguished baseball player and scholar who graduated from Rio Grande High School in 2011, left a lasting impression on his community. Tragically, he passed away a few years later due to a brain aneurysm, leaving behind a legacy of talent and promise.

In his honor, Garcia’s family has established the annual Angelo Garcia Memorial Tournament, now in its seventh year. This event serves as both a tribute to his memory and a beacon of support for aspiring student-athletes.

This year, the tournament has raised funds to award a $2,500 scholarship to Jose Martinez, an Albuquerque student-athlete. Martinez, who plans to continue his baseball career at Lamar Community College in Colorado, will use the scholarship to support his education and athletic endeavors.

The tournament not only commemorates Garcia’s life but also invests in the future of young athletes, ensuring that his legacy continues to shine brightly.
