Americans will get $100 payments from Verizon surcharge settlement soon after funds were delayed for crucial reason
According to The SUN USA, Americans eligible for a share of the recent Verizon settlement may soon receive their payments. Initially delayed due to legal complications, the distribution of funds is now expected to begin as early as December 1, 2024, according to Yuvagalam.
Background of the $100 Million Settlement
The $100 million settlement originates from a class action lawsuit in which Verizon faced accusations of deceptive marketing practices while promoting some of its plans. Plaintiffs alleged that the company failed to disclose certain administrative fees and additional charges, leading to higher costs than advertised. Although Verizon denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to resolve the claims and avoid further legal expenses.

Eligibility for Settlement Payments
Eligible class members, who could receive payments ranging from $15 to $100, may receive their compensation via check or electronic transfer, depending on the option they selected when filing their claim earlier this year.
To qualify for the settlement, individuals needed to be current or former Verizon account holders in the United States. They must have purchased postpaid wireless or data services and been charged administrative fees or a “Telco Recovery Charge” between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023. Additionally, they were required to file a valid claim form by April 15, 2024, unless they opted out by February 20 or objected by February 26.
Legal Delays and Appeals
A fairness hearing was held on March 22, 2024, but the final approval was delayed due to a motion for intervention by two law firms representing approximately 10,000 Verizon customers. This motion extended the approval process until April 26, 2024. Further delaying the distribution, some claimants who objected to the settlement have filed appeals.
As a result, while the payout period is anticipated to start on December 1, 2024, the actual distribution of funds could be postponed until these appeals are resolved. The settlement website advises eligible claimants to monitor for updates, as the timeline remains uncertain.
Stay Informed About Other Settlement Opportunities
In the meantime, Americans should stay aware of other upcoming settlement payouts. For instance, some may receive a check from a $1.1 million settlement without needing to take any action. Others could receive payments of up to $11,000 from an $8.8 million data breach settlement with just a receipt.
Stay tuned to official channels for the latest updates on these and other settlements to ensure you don’t miss out on potential compensation.
