According to KRQE, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller recently delivered his ‘State of the City’ address, titled ‘A Future Worth Fighting For.’ But what does that phrase really mean?

In this week’s episode of the New Mexico News Insiders podcast, Mayor Keller joins hosts Gabby and Chris for an in-depth conversation about the city’s most pressing issues, including crime, homelessness, and the economy. Keller identifies Fentanyl as the metro area’s biggest problem.

Reflecting on the challenges facing Albuquerque, Mayor Keller shared that when people ask him, “What’s the one thing you would change if you had a magic wand?” his answer is always the same: Fentanyl. “Whether it’s America or Albuquerque, Fentanyl is destroying our cities. It intersects with several other dangerous trends,” Keller explained.

The mayor also acknowledged that the city’s housing voucher program is falling short and is in need of significant reform. He pointed out that Albuquerque clears approximately 200 homeless encampments every month, highlighting the severity of the homelessness crisis.

As construction projects around the city face delays, questions arise about whether Keller will seek a third term in office. What should the city’s top priorities be moving forward?

These questions and more are explored in the full interview. To hear the entire discussion, listen and subscribe to the New Mexico News Insiders podcast on your preferred podcast platform. You can also watch the video version of the podcast on the KRQE YouTube channel.
