The DiverseIT team from Adelante Development Center visited Edward Gonzales Elementary School on Thursday, where they distributed free laptops to low-income students and provided training on how to use them safely.

Jill Beets of Adelante Development Center emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “There is a huge digital divide here in New Mexico where a lot of people lack access to computers. That’s what we do at DiverseIT, so to increase the number of people that have access to devices as well as training and technology. It’s very important work, you know, people who have been excluded from technology get that access.”

In total, they distributed 40 backpacks, each containing a laptop, mouse, headphones, and instructional books, to help bridge the technology gap for students in need.
