ACT FAST: Americans to Receive $100 Payments from Verizon Surcharge Settlement
According to THE SUN, Americans who qualified for a share of Verizon’s recent $100 million settlement may receive their payments soon. Legal complications caused delays, but eligible class members could see their distributions ranging from $15 to $100 as early as December 1, 2024.
Payments will be made via check or electronic transfer, based on the preference selected when filing the claim form earlier this year. The settlement follows a class-action lawsuit where plaintiffs alleged that Verizon engaged in deceptive marketing practices by not disclosing certain administrative fees and additional charges, making plans cost more than advertised.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for a portion of the settlement, individuals must have been current or former Verizon account holders in the U.S. They should have received postpaid wireless or data services and incurred payments for administrative charges or a “Telco Recovery Charge” between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023. Those who filed a valid claim form by April 15, 2024, will be eligible for compensation, unless they opted out by February 20 or objected by February 26.
Filing Requirements and Legal Complications
Eligible candidates should have received a notice about the lawsuit either by mail or email. The settlement faced delays due to a motion for intervention filed by two law firms representing about 10,000 Verizon customers, which prolonged the final approval process until April 26, 2024. Additionally, some claimants who objected to the settlement filed appeals, further delaying payments.
Expected Payment Schedule
Settlement funds are projected to be distributed starting December 1, 2024, but this could be delayed depending on the resolution of ongoing appeals. The settlement administrator has yet to provide additional details or updates, but information will be made available as it becomes known.

Other Settlement Opportunities
In the meantime, Americans should be aware of other upcoming settlements. Some individuals may receive checks from a $1.1 million settlement with no action required, while others could obtain up to $11,000 from an $8.8 million data breach settlement with only a receipt needed.
